BNSUD Update - June 19th
The BNSUD RTU Training Committee met on Monday, June 15th and as a committee, we decided to start our registration process for the anticipated start of a 2020 season. If there is to be a 2020 season, there will be major changes required. There will be mandatory steps that will be required for our umpires to be able to umpire this season.
BNSUD will NOT be accepting any brand new umpires for the 2020 season.
At this time for the 2020 season, due to a number of key factors - shorter season, less games, lack of opportunity for in person training session, etc. I know that this will upset potential new umpires, but at this time, BNSUD is not able to offer training to brand new umpires.
For our returning membership, we have outlined our 2020 Registration process as follows:
1) Mandatory Online registration through the BNS website – This will work in the same manner as in past years. We will be conducting our online registration through the BNS website. The difference this summer will be that we will be having everyone register based on the ZOOM session that they can attend online. We are maxing out each session at 85 participants. With the mandatory online registration, there will be a requirement to complete a Mandatory waiver which had earlier been communicated in my last update on June 8th.The waiver must be completed in order to be on the field and umpire this summer. For BNSUD, we have been able to have this set up to be completed online and we will be able to track who has or hasn’t completed the required waiver.
The link for the registration page is below:
2) ZOOM sessions will be MANDATORY for all umpires including Level 4 and 5. As part of the online registration, you will need to choose the ZOOM session you will attend. With the required rules and positioning changes, all umpires registering and planning to umpire this season, must attend one of 4 ZOOM sessions. We anticipate the ZOOM sessions to take a maximum of 2 hours per session. For the ZOOM sessions, our intention is to send out the ZOOM session information (link, password, instructions, etc…) at least 2 days prior to the scheduled ZOOM session. For each session, we need to have all participants are visible via Video with their proper name for their log in. We will provide more details in the email for the ZOOM sessions if you need to change the name on your log in.
3) Online exam – an online exam will be MANDATORY! For all Level 1 and 2 umpires, attached to this email are the instructions for the process to be set up for their exams. Please follow the process and you will get back the required exam set up only after step 1 is completed, including the waiver. The Level 1 and 2 exams may be completed prior to your ZOOM session.
For Level 3 umpires, once they have completed step 1 of the process, including the waiver, they will have to do the Baseball Canada level 3 exam. The level 3 exam is done through your umpire.baseball.ca account. If you don’t have an umpire.baseball.ca account, you will have to create one and then once confirmed for Step 1, you will be given access to complete the Level 3 course and exam. Exams may be completed prior to each umpire’s ZOOM session.
For Level 4 and 5 umpires, all exams for National Level umpires need to be completed A.S.A.P. Do not wait for your ZOOM session – complete now.
4) Registration fees – We will be collecting registration fees once we are assured of a 2020 season. All registration fees must be paid via Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT). You will be contacted at the email address entered on the registration form about when and how to pay from Steven Clark by July 10. For questions about the payment process, contact Steven at email@example.com. The expectation is that registration fees will be paid before umpires are included on our registration lists that go to the assignors. This means no games until registration fees are paid and accepted. For the 2020 season, we have reduced our BNSUD registration fees by 50%. For level 1 and 2, the fees will be $35. For Level 3,4 and 5 the feels will be $50.
In order to be able to umpire, all 4 steps will need to be completed. We will be tracking the progress of each umpire and we will be following up to ensure that all steps are completed.
If there are any questions, please feel free to reach out and I will get back to you. I know we have put a lot of mandatory steps in place, but we need to have all of these requirements in order to prepare for the season and to ensure all our members have everything they need for our unique 2020 season.
BNSUD believes the safety of our members is the number one priority. Please stay safe.
