Bluenose League Update and Changes

During January of 2021, a committee was struck to review the Bluenose League’s current structure. The committee was tasked with providing recommendations to the BNS Competition Committee to better align the league’s structure and rules to Baseball Canada’s LTAD principles.

The outcomes from the committee were:

  • Provide an age-appropriate competition schedule that can allow for better alignment of training to competition ratios.
  • Address pace of play issues that align with LTAD recommendations for competition length by age category.
  • Allow for additional flexibility in the spring for clubs to finalize their rosters.
  • Consider the benefits and implications to health and safety from such changes.

The complete list of changes can be found at our website.

Calendar of Events 2021

The updated BNS Calendar of Events is now available on our website.

Please keep in mind our calendar is subject to changes pending messaging from Public Health and implications from COVID. BNS will update membership as changes arise.

Baseball Nova Scotia and Safesport

BNS is pleased to promote new training for coaches to become more educated in offering a safer environment for our athletes. Developed by the Coaching Association of Canada, the training will help anyone involved in sport identify and prevent situations of maltreatment.

The new SafeSport training is free, and available at https://safesport.coach.ca/ .

The NCCP SafeSport training will be mandatory for all coaches in the province. Please note, this is a multi-sport course, and will be applied to all sport. If you have already completed it as a requirement for another sport, you will not have to take it again.

Associations will also be responsible for ensuring their coaches have completed Criminal Record Checks. BNS will be communicating further information on tracking and supports in our March update.

BNS and COVID Update

As we come closer to the ball season, there are many people wondering what the 2021 summer will look like. As of right now, BNS is planning on a normal season of baseball. We encourage associations, officials, coaches, volunteers, and athletes to do the same.

Baseball Nova Scotia will continue to follow the guidelines released from public health. In consultation with Public Health, Sport Nova Scotia, and the Department of Communities, Culture, and Heritage, the organization will adjust its plan accordingly. Contingency planning is underway for various scenarios, including limitations on group size, hygiene requirements, travel restrictions, and other implications from the COVID protocols at the time. Baseball Nova Scotia is confident that protocols established in 2020 have laid the groundwork for a smoother transition into the 2021 season.

As associations begin some level of off-season training, we encourage groups to stay up to date on the constantly evolving COVID restrictions and protocols for sport. A complete list of public health releases for sport can be found here: http://www.sportnovascotia.ca/Home/News/TabId/1587/PID/100/CategoryID/17/CategoryName/Covid-19/Default.aspx

Bluenose League Update

Baseball Nova Scotia is in the process of reviewing a proposal for minor changes to the Bluenose League for 2021. These changes would better align our league’s structure with Long Term Athlete Development ideals for the sport of baseball.

Baseball Nova Scotia will be offering a girl’s division at 12U and 14U in the Bluenose League for the first time ever.
